Waiting
Well, folks, I’m waiting to be hired at the MTC. A guy in my economic growth class who is over a whole group of Spanish teachers talked to me today about why they haven’t called me back for my second interview - there is a freeze in hiring in the Spanish and English languages. He said he’s usually over around 60 teachers and right now he has 24. There are less missionaries being...

Oh, Coach
Well, it’s different and sometimes rewarding being a woman in the econ group at the Y. Reasons: 1. Professors tend to remember our names [and by default, us as individuals] very easily. As Coach (Prof, Doctor) Butler puts it. The whole class is white males, so it’s easy to remember your [the girls’] names. *note: the girls’ in my econ classes have always been a few...

The Bottom Billion (El Club de Miseria) Studying this for my economic growth class with Prof. Olga Bogach. Dr. Collier suggests that the divergence of the countries who have actually had economic decline as opposed to growth puts them in a completely different category than the other “developing” countries (as opposed to the “developed”), and that the gap will only continue growing between the...

An Update
Well, it’s my first blog since I’ve been released as a missionary. It was the 24th of March.  First was recuperation and recovery at the Barn. It went  like this: [[MORE]] Aunt Suzy and I teamed up as we learned how to cook like Argentines, and she had a genius idea that I make a book about my mission experience so I could have my photos organized and a beautiful format for sharing....

$200 = 101 Happy People
Thanks for the submission Jane! It’s Day 38 and Bee Money just found himself with a full stomach. Yesterday a hungry man on the street got a mouthful of bran muffins. What could happen tomorrow? Well, if you’re following the 101 Happy People Project it’s likely you’ll check back to find out. Don’t know what that is? Here’s the lowdown.  One day a young male...

Eliza and I didn’t have any cash when we went to Velour, so we stood outside waiting for our friend James (who was playing for Open Mic Night) and put up a few posters around downtown Provo for the Hunger Banquet. The guy at the register totally had us come back in to hear Book on Tapeworm (for free!), and I am so glad he did!

Thank you!
My cousin Ashlyn drew this gorgeous picture for our birthdays! Isn’t homemade the best?I turned 21 almost a month ago. It was wonderful! I just wanted to make a belated post to say thank you to my family and friends for all the love! One of my favorite gifts was one that Aunt Suzy made for me, it is this hat! She also made me another hat that is way cool - your hair fits through it!! My...

Ads, a sign of the times? Part I
As a researcher on the WomanStats project my fellow coders and I share a lot of interesting stuff as we run across it. Here are some pictures Alix shared with us, as well as some I found, of some ads that show blatant sexism. I believe men and women are different and I don’t think that we should be treated the same. However, different does not mean unequal. We have come a long way since...

Our trip to Ophir
Saturday was my birthday, and what I wanted to do was hang out with Sarah and visit a ghost town, so off to Ophir we drove in our favorite car Earnest. As you can see, it was really snowy. Ophir didn’t turn out to be a total ghost town, in fact, we met one of the residents while we were checking the historical section! There was a big wheel. We had to take pictures. I thought I’d set my...
